Workshop Description

Social service providers, educators, law enforcement and community members are all essential in the fight against human trafficking. In this workshop, attendees will learn how to identify situations of human trafficking and how to respond appropriately. Participants will gain an understanding on what is being done to combat trafficking in Northern Illinois and what resources are available.


This workshop will discuss:

  • The use of appropriate language when working with trafficking survivors.
  • The legal definition of sex and labor trafficking and pertinent legislation
  • Individual, societal, and environmental risk factors for human trafficking
  • Recognizing the red flags that will identify a potential survivor
  • Appropriate ways to respond to a trafficking situation
  • Local and national resources for trafficking survivors


Speaker Bio

KT McClure Gonzalez works with the Stop-It program as an Anti-Trafficking Outreach Specialist. Her job focus is to train people on how to identify situations of human trafficking and to respond appropriately when encountered. Her past work has included: work with unaccompanied immigrant youth, outreach to men engaged in survival sex on Chicago’s North side, and years in Caracas, Venezuela engaging in pastoral/social work among at-risk youth living on the streets and in under-resourced communities. Additionally, KT holds a degree in Urban Ministries with a minor in Cross-Cultural Studies from North Central University in Minneapolis, MN.


Registration fees, which include lunch, are:

  • $20.00 for AITCOY Members
  • $35.00 for Non-Members


2.0 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be awarded for Illinois Social Workers and Professional Counselors. Registration deadline is February 21, 2020.
