Resiliency is a concept used frequently when discussing working with young people, and the assumption is made that resiliency is important to foster.  However, resiliency oftentimes is discussed in broad strokes without any specification about what exactly constitutes resiliency.  This presentation is aimed at targeting the specifics that often get glossed over.  What exactly is (and is not) resiliency?  Where does resiliency come from?  Can it be taught?  Can it be encouraged?  What types of services, supports or programs can foster resiliency?  How do I know when a young person is resilient or not?  What types of outcomes should we be looking for in our programs targeting resiliency?

Workshop Learning Objectives Include:
  • Establish a working definition of resilience
  • Demonstrate the value/need for incorporating resiliency into youth service models
  • Identify dynamic resilience factors and interventions/services that lead to an increase of resiliency
  • Examine services and supports to increase resiliency across various settings including home, school and community
Two continuing education hours will be awarded for Illinois Social Workers and Professional Counselors. Registration deadline is Friday, February 19, 2016.
